Special Education Academic Programs

The special education program at Community High School is thoughtfully designed to ensure that all students meet the New Jersey Department of Education's graduation requirements by the time they complete high school. All courses are fully aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), provide a rigorous academic foundation across subject areas, and are individually tailored to meet the unique needs of each student, guided by their Individualized Education Program (IEP).

In addition to core academic instruction, the curriculum includes career education and financial literacy, which are integrated throughout students' high school experience to prepare them for life beyond graduation.

Each student’s academic progress is closely monitored, with coursework carefully tracked yearly. To support individualized planning and goal-setting, a formal annual review meeting is held for every student, ensuring that educational paths remain aligned with graduation requirements, personal goals, and postsecondary readiness.

Community High School offers a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum that includes core academic subjects such as language arts, social studies, science, mathematics, and world languages, along with a diverse selection of elective courses to support student interests and personal growth.

Classes are intentionally small to support individualized instruction, and each class meets five times weekly for forty minutes.

Students are assigned homework regularly per their academic profiles and IEPs. As such, students may be offered modified assignments and specific accommodations regarding homework to meet individual needs.
